In June 2021, following the refurbishment of 166 units across eight blocks of Agnes Jones House in Liverpool, our client – a nationwide provider of private student accommodation - instructed us to undertake the internal refurbishment of a further 30 units over 5 floors, and their associated communal areas in Blocks A and B of the scheme.
As with Phases 1 and 2, the third phase of this project involved improving the quality of the existing accommodation stock, replacing all kitchens and bathrooms and altering the layout of the block in order to provide higher-specification ensuite student rooms. The designs including our custom solution ‘twodio’ apartments, with two bedrooms sharing one living space.
Working with student feedback, we made some adjustments to layouts in earlier phases of the project, providing larger desk and workspace areas, more storage and avoiding positioning beds under windows.
The project, which focused on the Victorian annex of the building, had an extremely challenging timescale, with all work being required to be completed in time for the new academic year. The project went on site at the end of June and was completed in under three months, with new residents moving in at the start of September 2021, in time for the new university term.
